Provision of folic acid for reducing arsenic toxicity in arsenic-exposed children and adults

New protocol published.

Arsenic is a common environmental toxin and exists in both organic and inorganic forms. Acute poisoning by arsenic is rare, but low-level chronic exposure in humans through contaminated drinking water is common throughout the world. This review will assess the effects of the provision of folic acide(through folic acid fortified foods or supplements), alone or in combination with other nutrients, on arsenic toxicity and arsenic-related health outcomes (i.e. neurocognitive function, skin lesions, congential disorders and cancer) in arsenic-exposed populations.
