Coronavirus (COVID-19): infection control and prevention measures

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of the coronavirus as a global public health emergency on 30 January 2020 and a pandemic on 11 March 2020.

To faciliate immediate access to the most relevant systematic reviews, Cochrane has released two new special collections on the coronavirus, which are available on the Cochrane Library:

  1. Coronavirus (COVID-19): infection control and prevention measures; and
  2. Coronavirus (COVID-19): evidence relevant to critical care

The collections include reviews that evaluate the effects of interventions of most direct relevance to the management of people hospitalised with severe acute respiratory infections, including fluid and vasopressor therapy, respiratory support and mechanical ventilation, weaning mechanical ventilation, managing hypoxaemia, pharmacological treatment and nutrition in intensive care. It is important to note that the reviews summarise evidence only. It does not mean that the interventions reviewed therein are effective prevention measures.

The collections will be updated to ensure they remain applicable as the situation and guidance evolves.

Additionally, Evidence Aid is preparing COVID-19 summaries of relevant research as soon as each is ready. See the collection here
